Over € 50 Mio. order for the establishment of the first optical fiber plant in Russia.
Nextrom received an order for establishing the first Russian optical fiber plant, located in Saransk, capital city of the Republic of Mordovia (about 650 km east from Moscow). This investment will fulfill the increasing demand of fiber driven by high speed telecommunication in Russia
On February 11, 2011, in presence of the president of the Republic of Mordovia, Mr. Nikolay Merkushkin, the contract has been signed with Optical Volokno Systems (OVS) by the project partners. The strategic importance and significance of this project for the Russian Federation has been emphasized by Prime Minister Mr. Vladimir Putin.
Nextrom is Turn-key vendor for the technology, production equipment, infrastructure and supporting services. Silitec will support Nextrom in providing engineering and plant operation services.
The factory will produce Preforms and Optical Fibers based on Nextrom’s leading VAD and FCVD technologies. The plant will ramp up to full capacity within the next three years.
For Christian and Georg Knill this project marks another milestone in the fiber optic business of the group and shows that the forward strategy and related investments pay-off.
Siegfried Altmann, General Manager of the KNILL Technology group: “We are global market leader in this business area and with this project we further expand and strengthen our position. Additional worldwide projects in this field will follow.”
